Displaying Your Calendar on Your Home Page

If you would like to display a small version of your calendar on your Home page, the Events Widget is the way to go. You can also use this widget to display your upcoming events in a list format.

To display your calendar, or a list of your upcoming events, on your Home page, you will first need to place the Events Widget on your Home page template (Settings>Theme and templates>Edit Template>Customize template with widgets).  To learn more about adding widgets to a template, click here.

Once you’ve added the widget, click on it to open it for editing. Give it a title, such as School Events or Church Events, and select how you want your Events Widget to display. Next, click the Choose events feed tab to select the online calendar you wish to use. It can be one you’ve created on your own netAdventist site or a calendar from another site. If you don’t see the calendar you want, you will need to go back and add it under Website pages>Calendar.

When you’re finished click Done to close your display box and then click Done again to save the changes you’ve made to your Home page template. Follow these same steps to add the Events Widget to any other template on your site.

Tips for Creating and Editing Your Content Pages

  1. Save your work – If you’re going to be working for a long time on one page, save it and re-enter the page periodically, so you don’t lose your work if something goes wrong.
  2. Use header tags – Your site includes header tags 1, 2, and 3, which help you format your headings consistently within your chosen theme. You can either use the HTML tool in your content editor toolbox to insert the header tags manually (e.g., <h1></h1>) or use Microsoft Word to format your headings with headers 1, 2 or 3, and then use the Paste from Word tool in the content editor toolbox (be sure you use this tool or you’ll lose your formatting).
  3. Write your content in MS Word – Write your page content in a word processor program like Microsoft Word. Besides being able to use a superior spell-checker, you’ll be able to save a backup of your text just in case your page gets deleted from your site. You can also easily apply header styles and other formatting, and then use the Paste from Word tool to copy it all over.
  4. Be sure to enable pop-ups – Make sure your browser is set to allow pop-ups from your site as some buttons in the netAdventist dashboard utilize a pop-up window.  Double-check your Google toolbar too, if it is installed, as it may also block pop-ups from your site.

How do I add shared content from another netAdventist site to my site?

Most of the content that is managed under the Website pages tab (such as Content Pages, News, Calendar, Podcasts, etc.) has a Shared subfolder listed under it in the left navigation menu.

To add shared content from another netAdventist site simply click on the Shared subfolder under the content type you wish to add (i.e. select News>Shared if you wish to add a news feed from another netAdventist site or Podcasts>Shared if you wish to add a podcast from another site). Then click the Browse available feeds button. Select the division, union, or local field from the drop-down menus at the top, and then select the feed you wish to subscribe to. Click Done to save your work.
